Orange Tesla Ecstasy is a new form of ecstasy that contains approximately twice the amount of MDMA than regular ecstasy. This can lead to very dangerous effects to an individual’s health, especially if they are unaware of how potent this form of ecstasy is.
Ecstasy: A Background
Traditionally, ecstasy was a substance used at all-night dance parties in clubs, as reported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), however, they further elaborate, telling us that this use is now more widespread. Ecstasy is a synthetic substance which is comparable in composition to both hallucinogens and stimulants. It produces feelings of euphoria, greater energy, emotional warmth, and a distortion of time and sensory perception. Ecstasy can be taken in pill or capsule form, and may even be snorted or taken as a liquid. People who take ecstasy may also use it in accompaniment with other substances, such as marijuana or alcohol.
How Ecstasy Affects The Brain And Body
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), ecstasy works to increase three chemicals in the brain, resulting in the following changes:
- Dopamine — Increased levels of this neurotransmitter result in feelings of euphoria and heightened energy.
- Norepinephrine — These changes are responsible for an elevated heart rate and blood pressure, which is especially worrisome for those who have existing cardiovascular concerns.
- Serotonin — This chemical affects mood, appetite, sleep and other functions. This increase is likely responsible for the feelings of emotional closeness and empathy that accompany this drug use.
In addition to these changes in your neurochemistry, ecstasy may affect your overall health by causing:
- Blurred vision
- Chills
- Nausea
- Muscle cramping
- Involuntary teeth clenching
- Sweating
Because the effects of ecstasy only last approximately three to six hours, individuals may take a second dose before the influence of the first has a chance to fade. This further compounds the dangers of this drug, some of which can cause serious, and even life-threatening side effects.
NIDA continues to tell us that higher doses of ecstasy can raise your body’s temperature in a capacity that may, in some instances, cause organ failure, specifically that of the kidneys, liver, or heart, which may prove fatal. Additionally, ecstasy’s propensity for creating a sense of confidence and closeness with others may lead to unsafe sexual practices, which can increase the odds of hepatitis or HIV/AIDS transmission, and unintended pregnancy. According to Mayo Clinic, ecstasy can also cause extreme, and sometimes fatal cases of hyponatremia, a condition that occurs when your body’s sodium levels drop too low. Lastly, it is important to note that anytime you combine a drug with another drug, as is a common practice with ecstasy, the risks increase even more.
